A 2007 study in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine reported that first-time mothers under chiropractic care throughout pregnancy have 25% shorter labor times on average; women who have given birth before averaged 31% shorter labor times! What pregnant woman wouldn’t want that? At Awaken Chiropractic Center, we strive to help our moms-to-be experience the pregnancy and birth process they’re always wanted.

Our Approach

Dr. Victoria has trained extensively in providing gentle care for pregnant mothers, and both Dr. Victoria and Dr. Robert are certified in the Webster Technique. This very specific analysis addresses the sacrum, pelvis and surrounding soft tissue structures to improve their function. If found misaligned, causing abnormal nerve function (vertebral subluxation), an adjustment is delivered to reduce the effects of subluxation and sacro-iliac joint dysfunction.

This adjustment has been shown to improve neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis. Sacral subluxation may contribute to difficult labor for the mother, called dystocia. This can be caused by inadequate uterine function, weak or absent pelvic contraction, and/or the baby being in a less-than-ideal position. Correction of sacral subluxation may have a positive effect on all these causes of dystocia.

Improving Nervous System Function

The nervous system coordinates and controls all systems in the body, including the intricate hormonal system responsible for starting and ending the labor process. That’s why it is important to ensure that there are as few interruptions in communication between the brain and the body, processing the development of new life as possible.

When we work with a pregnant mama, our focus is on impacting the function of her body. Lots of women experience improvement in energy levels and their quality of sleep after an adjustment; others find relief from low back and/or hip pain; some find it easier to stand up straight, which allows them to take a deep breath. WHEW!

When there is proper nerve flow between the brain and reproductive organs, and when the pelvis is moving properly, some women have reported resolution of breech presentation. Of course, nothing we do moves the baby, but we can help get your brain and body communicating, so your baby can do what they’re supposed to do—naturally.
