Your body was made for this, mama bear! 🐻
A 2007 study in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine reported that first-time mothers under chiropractic care throughout pregnancy have 25% shorter labor times (on average); women who have given birth before averaged 31% shorter labor times! What pregnant woman wouldn't want that!?
Dr Victoria has trained extensively on gentle care for pregnant mothers and is certified in the Webster technique. This very specific analysis addresses the sacrum, pelvis and surrounding soft tissue structures to improve their function. If found to be misaligned causing abnormal nerve function (vertebral subluxation), an adjustment is delivered with a goal of reducing the effects of subluxation and sacro-iliac joint dysfunction. This adjustment has been shown to improve neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis. Sacral subluxation may contribute to difficult labor for the mother, called dystocia. Dystocia can be caused by inadequate uterine function, weak or absent pelvic contraction, and/or the baby being in a less-than-ideal position. Correction of sacral subluxation may have a positive effect on all of these causes of dystocia. |

Understanding that the nervous system coordinates and controls all systems in the body (including the intricate hormone system responsible for starting and ending the labor process!), it is important to make sure there are as few interruptions in communication between the brain and the body processing the development of new life as possible!
When we work with a pregnant mama, our focus is on impacting the overall function of her body. Lots of women experience improvement in energy levels and their quality sleep after an adjustment; others find relief from low back and/or hip pain; some find it easier to stand up straight which allows them to take a deep breath. WHEW! Lots can happen when the pelvis is properly aligned! When there is proper nerve flow between the brain and reproductive organs and when the pelvis is moving properly, some women have reported resolution of breech presentation. YOUR BODY IS AMAZING! |
